Four men charged with making false statements to Gardaí

Four men have been before Donegal District Court charged with making a false statement to Gardaí. The charges are in connection with the ongoing Carty inquiry into allegations against Gardaí in Donegal.

Derrick Connolly, aged 33 of Craig's Road, Raphoe, was charged with making a false statement regarding careless driving by another person and with wasting Garda time. The two offences are alleged to have been committed on 30 January 1997. When charged, Mr Connolly made no reply.

Three men earlier appeared before Donegal District Court in charges relating to the ongoing enquiry into allegations against Gardaí in Donegal. The three, all in their 20s, were charged with making false statements to Gardaí and wasting Garda time. Noel McBride, of Figart, Raphoe, County Donegal, appeared on a total of ten charges. He was alleged, on five different dates between November 1996 and July 1997, to have made a false statement tending to show that an offence of assault occasioning actual bodily harm had been committed by another person. He is also charged with causing the time of Gardaí to be wastefully employed.

Roderick Donnelly, of Ballylennon, St Johnston, and William Doherty of Manorcunningham, both appeared on two charges. All four men were remanded in custody with consent to bail.
