Great Train robber Biggs to give himself up

The Great Train Robber Ronnie Biggs has said he wants to return to Britain from exile in Brazil after spending over 35 years on the run. Ronnie Biggs has e-mailed Scotland Yard to say that he wants to hand himself over to the authorities. The 71-year-old said that he was yearning for a curry and a pint of beer.

On the run for half of his life the legendary crook has been enjoying a champagne lifestyle since he escaped from prison in the early 1960s. A notorious womaniser, at his 70th birthday bash two summers ago the Brazilian mother of his son, his current Argentine girlfriend and estranged English wife all attended. But the high life has finally caught up with him. He has had three strokes and wants to return to Britain before he dies. He now speaks through his son Michael whose birth 26 years ago prevented him from being extradited back to Britain.

Ronnie Biggs was part of a 15 man gang that held up a Glasgow to London mail train and escaped with £2.6 million - a record haul at the time which is worth £50 million at today's prices. However, less than two years into his 30 year jail sentence he escaped from prison guaranteeing him a place in criminal folklore. The gang attacked the driver who never recovered. He is hoping, because of his health, that he will be put in a jail hospital while the authorities decide what to do with him.

Scotland Yard has confirmed that he will be rearrested if he returns. It could be as early as next week before Ronnie Biggs says goodbye to his current lifestyle.
