South African woman charged with importing cannabis into

A South African woman has been before a special court sitting in Cork, charged with importing 10 kilos of cannabis. Thirty-four-year-old Maria Erwee, from Oakland in Johannesburg, was remanded in custody until Wednesday. The drugs, with an estimated street value of £100,000 were seized at Cork Airport last night.

Two men also appeared before the court charged in connection with the seizure of a £100,000 worth of cannabis herb. Robert Woodside of Grotto House, Cork Road, Waterford and Maisala Chilis of 70, Manor Street, Waterford, both aged 25, were charged with possession and possession for sale or supply of the drugs at MacCurtain Street in Cork city. Both men were remanded in custody after Gardaí objected to bail and they will be before the Court again on Wednesday.
