The three men arrested by Gardaí investigating the death of 23-year old Adrian Moynihan in Cork earlier this week have been released. Mr Moynihan, of Ballincollie Road, Spring Lane, Ballyvollane, in Cork, died following an altercation outside Sidetrax nightclub in the city centre in the early hours of Monday morning.
A murder investigation was initiated after a post mortem examination by the Assistant State Pathologist, Dr Marie Cassidy, indicated that Mr Moynihan did not die of natural causes. Throughout the week Gardaí have been making significant progress in their investigation. They have interviewed some 200 witnesses so far, both nightclub staff and patrons. They have also been examining security footage from closed circuit television cameras in the area.
Shortly after 8am this morning, Gardaí arrested three men for questioning about the murder. They were arrested at their homes in the north and west of the city and in the city centre. They were held under Section Four of the Criminal Justice Act at Mayfield and Gurranebraher Garda stations. Gardaí say their investigation has made significant progress. A file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
