Investigation to be launched into Waterford County Counci

Waterford County Manager has said that he will investigate allegations of county council staff doing what has been described as "nixers". Donal Connolly said that the allegations were very serious. He was responding to allegations made yesterday by Councillor John Deasy at a meeting of the county council. Councillor Deasy, son of TD Austin Deasy, suggested that some council planning staff were doing "nixers" in their spare time.

In a statement this afternoon, the County Manager said that the allegations were very serious and he has asked Councillor Deasy to furnish him with the information on which he has based the allegations. Mr Connolly said that he had investigated a complaint from a member of the general public about the planning process last year and that he was satisfied there was no interference in the process. Mr Connolly added that he will take any necessary action to maintain the confidence in the planning system.
