Two officials have been suspended and a third has resigned from his job with Roscommon county council after allegations of misconduct in the processing of planning applications. In a statement this evening the county council confirmed that one of those under suspension had admitted responsibility for submitting a planning application under an assumed name in another county. The investigation identified a number of staff (none of whom are involved in planning) who have had some involvement in the preparation and/or submission of planning applications, contrary to rules governing officials of the county council.
Another man who was found to have worked on several jobs for private parties has resigned from his position and a third junior officer is also suspended while an investigation into allegations that he was moonlighting are followed up. Despite the suspensions the Roscommon county manager says the majority of his staff have shown professionalism, commitment and integrity in their jobs. Re-building confidence after the low standards shown by others will be their next task.
