Former Chief Justice, Mr Liam Hamilton, buried in Dublin

The former Chief Justice, Mr Justice Liam Hamilton, who died on Wednesday, was laid to rest in Dublin today. The President, politicians, members of the judiciary and legal profession joined his family for his funeral Mass at the Church of the Sacred Heart in Donnybrook where his humanity and compassion were celebrated.

A final farewell to Mr Justice Liam Hamilton brought politicians, judges, barristers and friends together at the Church of the Sacred Heart in Donnybrook. The County Cork born former Chief Justice died on Wednesday, just ten months after his retirement from the bench. The Chief Celebrant, family friend, Monsieur Seamus Conway recalled Liam Hamilton's warm, engaging personality, his abundant energy and stamina and his gift for humanity and compassion.

Liam Hamilton left a significant mark on Irish public life and was a man of civility and courtesy that was based on a respect for every human being particularly the weak and less fortunate, he said. The attendance included the President Mary McAleese, the entire Supreme Court bench, politicians, colleagues and friends from all walks of life. He is survived by his wife Maeve, his daughters Ruth and Julie and his son William. Mr Justice Hamilton was buried in Shanganagh Cemetery.
