The celebrated Irish composer, Brian Boydell, has died in Dublin at the age of 83. Born in Dublin, he was educated at Cambridge University, the University of Heidelberg, the Royal College of Music and the Royal Irish Academy of Music. He was Professor of Music at Trinity College Dublin from 1962 to 1982 and a founder member of the Music Association of Ireland.
For more than 20 years Brian Boydell was conductor of Dublin Orchestral Players and he was a frequent guest conductor with the RTE Symphony Orchestra. His wide range of compositions include 4 string quartets, a violin concerto, orchestral, chamber and choral works. Brian Boydell is survived by his wife Mary, two sons and two sisters.
