The Dalai Lama told the people of the North that the power was in their own hands to resolve their problems. The Tibetan Buddhist leader, who meet privately with President Mary McAleese, delivered his message at the end of a three-day visit to the North during which he preached his message of peace. He said he tried to make a contribution to resolving the age old divisions in the North saying that self-confidence and patience were the most important things for people to have.
