RUC officers have been outlining the scenes which confronted them in the immediate aftermath of the Omagh bomb. The evidence came on day four of the inquest into the deaths of 29 people in the bombing two years ago. A statement from the RUC officer who was closest to the scene of the blast was read out today. The officer, Constable Tara McBurney, was not in court.
Counsel for the Coroner, Gemma Loughran, said that a medical report indicates that the evidence of Constable McBurney would be detrimental to her psychological health. Constable McBurney remained under medical care. In her statement, the officer recounted the horrific scenes she saw in the immediate aftermath of the blast.
