Greek police have arrested twelve Greenpeace activists who chained themselves to the gates of a soya processing plant, to protest against genetically engineered crops. Police cut the chains and removed the protestors who had been chained to the gates of the Soya Hellas plant on the large island of Evia, north of Athens.
The demonstrators had sailed ashore in inflatable boats from the MV Greenpeace, scaled the fence and hung a huge sign reading "Genetic Hazard" They later also blocked the plant's gates, preventing access to company trucks.
