A television crew working on a documentary for the Channel Four network has been arrested in Liberia on suspicion of spying. The station has rejected the accusation, saying that the team was engaged in legitimate journalistic activity. The two Britons, a Sierra Leonean and a South African are expected to appear in court on Monday.
The four have been accused of "engaging in acts against the security of the state" and had been "arrested on suspicion of espionage against the Republic of Liberia”. Channel Four said that the team, whose tapes were seized by the Liberian authorities, had received permission from the Ministry of Information to film in the country.
