Bill McCabe, the chairman and founder of Smartforce, the e-learning group, plans to resign in the next three to six months, once a board restructuring has been completed. Smartforce, originally known as CBT, last night announced plans to bring new non-executive directors to the board as part of a reorganisation which will enable Mr McCabe to move on. He resigned from CBT in 1997 to develop new companies, but he returned in 1998 to bolster confidence after the shares collapsed to just $6. They closed last night at $53 in the US.
