Husband of murdered Frenchwoman criticises judicial syste

The husband of murdered French film-maker Sophie Toscan du Plantier has said that her killer would now be in jail if the murder happened in France and the investigation was carried out under French law. Daniel Toscan du Plantier blamed the Irish judicial system for the failure to date of Gardaí to bring his wife's killer to justice.

Monsieur du Plantier is back in Ireland for the first time since his wife's tragic death close to her isolated West Cork holiday home three and a half years ago. He placed wreaths at the murder scene last night, after he met for two-and-a-half hours with Chief Superintendent Dermot Dwyer, the officer leading the investigation. Speaking today about the investigation into his wife's murder, Monsieur du Plantier said that if French police had the same information available to them that has been gathered by Gardaí, they would have been able to secure a conviction. He said that the French and Irish judicial systems were absolutely different.

Monsieur du Plantier said that he was greatly encouraged by his meeting with investigating Gardaí, saying that the information they had gathered was enormous. He also appealed for anyone who could help the garda investigation to come forward.
