Sophie Toscan du Plantier's husband now satisfied with Ga

The husband of murdered French filmmaker Sophie Toscan du Plantier has said that he believes the Garda investigation into her death will end with what he described as "a just solution". Daniel Toscan du Plantier had vowed two years ago that he would not return to Ireland until the murder had been solved, after criticising Garda handling of the case. However, following a two-hour briefing from Gardaí in West Cork this evening, he said that his criticism was no longer a problem.

Mystery has surrounded the death of 38-year old Sophie Toscan du Plantier since her body was discovered in a laneway near her isolated holiday home near Schull in West Cork, two day before Christmas of 1996. She had been beaten to death. Her husband Daniel accused Gardaí of treating him with suspicion and keeping him in the dark. Two years ago he vowed that he would not return to Ireland until his wife's murder had been solved.

On his arrival at Cork Airport today, Daniel Toscan du Plantier brushed aside questions from waiting journalists before heading for Bandon for a meeting with senior officers in the case. He spent two hours at that meeting, after which his attitude had clearly changed.
