Gardai have arrested seven people in Dublin, Donegal and Louth as part of an ongoing investigation into the activities of dissident republicans. Two are being held in Dundalk, two are being held in Letterkenny, and in Dublin, three men were arrested in Shankill, Blackrock and Irishtown. The men were aged between 32 and 50. A number of searches were also carried out.
The operation, which took place between 2pm and 5.45pm, is part of an ongoing investigation into the activites of dissident Republicans. It has been stepped up following the recent increase in the threat by dissidents along border areas. All are being held under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.
The arrests are part of an ongoing investigation into dissident Republicans, notably the Real IRA, which has stepped up its activities along the border. Gardai say more arrests are expected.
