A series of hoax bomb warnings caused serious disruption in Belfast City centre during the night. Callers, claiming to represent the Continuity IRA, said the devices had been planted in a number of locations, including the BBC studios at Broadcasting House. The building was evacuated and radio and television broadcasts were disrupted. Two pubs, a cinema and a number of offices were also cleared. British Army bomb disposal experts carried out three controlled explosions before declaring the area safe.
