The Special Criminal Court has refused an application by the father of a man convicted of the murder of journalist, Veronica Guerin to have his trial on money-laundering charges aborted. Counsel for Kevin Meehan of Stanaway Road, Kimmage in Dublin wanted the court to discharge itself because of an allegation made in court yesterday by state witness, Russell Warren, which was not contained in the book of evidence. The presiding judge, Mr Justice Robert Barr said he would exclude the allegation from evidence but refused to stop the trial.
60-year-old Kevin Meehan has pleaded not guilty to seven money laundering offences. His son, Brian Meehan, is currently serving a life-sentence for Ms Guerin's murder.
