Independent inquiry into the death of John Carthy ruled o

The Minister for Justice, John O'Donoghue, has ruled out an independent enquiry into the death of John Carthy, who was shot by gardaí in County Longford last Thursday. Mr Carthy, who was 27, was killed after walking out of his home at Abbeylara following a siege. Yesterday, his family called for an independent enquiry into the shooting. Today Mr O'Donoghue told RTÉ News that the Garda enquiry into the killing will be thorough. He said when the facts are established, they will be made public.
