Groups representing consumers and bankers have expressed concern about the proposed legislation on dormant accounts in financial institutions. Both groups have said a time period of 5 years is too short a time period for an account to be classified as dormant. The government wants the money in such accounts to be taken over by the state and eventually used for charitable purposes.
