Prosecuting counsel in the Catherine Nevin murder trial has finished his closing speech to the jury. Tom O'Connell described Mrs Nevin's claim that her husband was a member of the IRA as an invention designed to deceive the jury. She never told the Gardaí about it and the first time it was heard was when Catherine Nevin was in the witness box. Mr O'Connell said that Mrs Nevin invented the IRA claims because her story about the botched robbery was transparent and threadbare. He said that the prosecution case is that she is guilty on all four charges.
Defence counsel Patrick McEntee begun his closing speech to the jury this afternoon and is not expected to complete his submission until Monday afternoon. Ms Justice Mella Carroll has indicated that her charge to the jury will take two days and they will retire to consider their verdict on Thursday next.
