The Central Criminal Court in Dublin has been told that Mrs Catherine Nevin is still in hospital. Ms Justice Mella Carroll told the jury this morning that Mrs Nevin is in hospital and that they need not return until Wednesday. Last Thursday Mrs Nevin was taken to St James Hospital after she collapsed at her home. It had been expected that she would be able to attend the trial this morning. Mrs Nevin denies murdering her husband Tom Nevin in March 1996. She also denies soliciting three men to murder him in 1989 and 1990.
Mrs Nevin has already given evidence of her medical history. She said that she was diagnosed with pernicious anaemia in 1987 and is taking ongoing medication. She has also had surgery for varicose veins. Mrs Nevin is being led through her evidence by her defence lawyer Patrick McEntee. She will also face cross-examination by the prosecution.
