The former UFF commander, Johnny Adair, was among mourners at the funeral in Portadown of Andrew Robb, who was 19. He and 18-year-old David McIlwaine were found with their throats slashed after leaving a nightclub near Tandragee in Co Armagh.
A number of people, who were being questioned by the RUC about the murder of two young men in County Armagh have been released without charge. The two were found near Tandragee on Saturday morning. Their families have said that they had no paramilitary links, but police say that they have not yet ruled out the involvement of terrorists in the murders.
Although the LVF has said the two men were not connected with the organisation, there is a belief locally that a feud between the UVF and the LVF led to their deaths. The murders have raised fears of a new round of gang warfare between the Loyalist groups in the area. There has been a lot of tension in the Portadown area, particularly since the murder of the UVF leader, Richard Jameson, at Christmas. Local journalist Chris Anderson said on Morning Ireland that talk of drug links are being brought in to disguise territorial warfare.
The victims' bodies were dumped under cover of darkness and were left lying yards apart on a country road. The gruesome discovery was made by a local woman driving children to dancing class. Post-mortem results revealed that both had died from multiple stab wounds. The RUC revealed that the victims were seen alive in Tandragee at around 1.30am Saturday morning, and may have been involved in a number of minor scuffles in the town. Their subsequent movements, until the time their bodies were discovered, are unknown.
