It has been reported that police in Britain have identified the alleged murderers of the Belfast solicitor Pat Finucane who was shot dead eleven years ago. According to a report in a London newspaper, investigations by the Stevens enquiry into the murder also support allegations of negligence by the RUC.
Pat Finucane was shot dead in 1989. The investigation into the murder, headed by Sir John Stevens, was set up last April on the instructions of the British Prime Minister Tony Blair. Today's London Independent newspaper reports that the Stevens team has handed over six names to the Director of Public Prosecutions, all of them are members of the Ulster Defence Association.
Pat Finucane's son, Michael, has told RTÉ that his family has long believed there was collusion between the RUC and loyalist paramilitaries in the murder.
