Irish poet Seamus Heaney has won this year's Whitbread Poetry Award. The Nobel laureate took the honour for his translation of the Anglo-Saxon epic "Beowulf". The accolade, announced this morning, puts him on the shortlist for the overall Whitbread title alongside three other individual category winners.
