Gardaí release Murray murder suspect

Gardaí have released a 29-year-old man they had been questioning in connection with the murder of the South Dublin teenager, Raonaid Murray, three months ago. The man was arrested this morning; his period of detention had been extended at lunchtime.

17-year-old Raonaid Murray was murdered at around midnight on September 3 last. She had left a pub in Dun Laoghaire and was attacked as she walked home. She was found stabbed to death in a laneway close to her home at Silchester Park in Glenageary.

50 detectives interviewed hundreds of people and carried out house to house inquiries in the area. A number of appeals for information were made as Gardaí sought to identify two men, one with bloodstains who was seen getting into a taxi in the area, another who had been seen arguing with Raonaid in the hour before she was murdered.
