A former business partner of Joseph Murphy senior has begun giving evidence to the Flood Tribunal. Batt O'Shea, who is 82, built houses on lands owned by the Murphys in North Dublin. He told the tribunal that he had suggested that Mr Murphy employ James Gogarty as a manager. He said Mr Murphy had donated land for a church in swords, after residents objected to a building scheme.
The former Dublin Assistant and County manager, George Redmond was cross-examined by his own counsel at the Flood Tribunal this morning. Mr Redmond said that he could not remember what year he received £25,000 from James Gogarty. He said that he now regretted taking it. He denied that he had given Mr Gogarty sensitive inside information about building levies. He said that any advice he gave him was for the Council's benefit. During a long detailed explanation Mr Redmond said that there was even a question mark at the time as to whether the Council could charge building levies at all.
