Gardaí launch murder investigation after death of stabbin

Gardaí have launched a murder investigation following the death this morning of a man who was attacked and left in critical condition earlier in the week. 22-year-old Patrick Campbell was stabbed during a fracas between two groups in a Dublin warehouse. The Irish Republican Socialist party has claimed that Mr Campbell was a member of the Irish National Liberation Army.

In the last 24 hours, two people have been arrested in relation to the murder. They are being held at Crumlin Garda station under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act. One man was arrested last night and a second man was taken into custody this morning. Patrick Campbell had been in intensive care in Tallaght hospital since last Wednesday's attack. This morning his battle for life ended and a murder investigation has been launched.

The attack happened at an industrial estate in West Dublin where Mr. Campbell received cuts to the head and all over his body during a confrontation between two groups. Gardaí were called to the scene by a caller who said that there had been a serious assault and a number of people were being held against their will. The call reported hearing shots being fired. When Gardaí arrived at the scene, the young man had already been taken to Tallaght Hospital.

Patrick Campbell had an address at Corduff Park in Blanchardstown in Dublin, although it is understood that he originally came from Belfast. The IRSP has said that Mr. Campbell was murdered in the defence of his community in the ongoing struggle against drugs.
