A postmortem examination on the teenage girl, who was murdered in South County Dublin early this morning, has found that she died as a result of multiple stab wounds.
17-year-old Raonaid Murray from Silchester Park, Glenageary was found at Silchester Crescent by friends at 12.40 am this morning, less than 200 yards from her home. Gardaí say that she was the victim of a frenzied attack. However, there were no signs of a sexual assault and her shoulder bag and a carrier bag were intact. Gardaí say that bloodstains suggest the attack took place in the tree-lined pedestrian way linking Silchester Road and Silchester Park. The bloodstains indicated that she had staggered about 50 yards from the scene of the attack before collapsing.
Raonaid had just completed her Leaving Certificate in which she had obtained good results, but had decided to repeat her exams. She was working part-time as a shop assistant in Dun Laoghaire shopping centre. According to Gardaí, she locked up the shop at 9pm last night and went to a local pub where she met another young woman, believed to be a friend. At closing time say Gardaí, she may have gone to a local fast food restaurant.
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses who might have seen her between 9pm and midnight. A wide area has been sealed off as Gardaí search for the murder weapon. They have admitted however, that they have no motive for the murder.
