Detectives from Belfast and Dublin are due to meet today to assess investigation into the Omagh bombing. It has also emerged that the RUC Chief Constable Sir Ronnie Flanagan has agreed to an independent review of his team's inquiry by a British police officer.
A 46-year-old publican, Colm Murphy, has been charged in connection with the bombing which left 29 people dead and more than 350 injured. He is awaiting trial on £100,000 bail. It has been claimed that up to 60 people were directly involved in the atrocity, or had advance knowledge some sort of an attack was being planned. An estimated 4,000 witnesses have been interviewed, with statements being made by nearly 75%.
This Saturday, the people of Omagh in County Tryone will gather to commemorate the first anniversary of the Real IRA bombing of the town. Over 400 people are still receiving counselling at the town's Trauma Centre.
