At the Flood Tribunal, Counsel for the Murphy Group, Garett Cooney, has identified evidence which he says backs up Michael Bailey's claim that he paid James Gogarty £162,000 in cash. Mr Cooney also suggested that it was no state secret that cash changed hands in the building industry. The Tribunal has spent several days trying to get Mr Bailey to prove that he had paid this money to Mr Gogarty, who denies receiving it.
Before finishing his direct evidence this morning, Mr. Bailey was pressed to disclose the source of the one hundred and sixty-two thousand pounds he claims he paid to the witness James Gogarty over a period of six years.
Mr. Bailey was asked to produce a list of all the companies in which he had been involved since 1989, together with the accounts of those companies. Mister Justice Flood said that this was necessary to check the veracity of Mr. Bailey's claim. However, Mr. Bailey said that he had been advised by his legal team to refuse the Tribunal's request.
