Gardaí in County Clare have extended their enquiries into the attempted abductions of two children in separate incidents in the county last night. They believe the incidents may be connected to a number of suspicious approaches made to children in Ennis and Kilkee in August and September of last year. They say it's a tribute to the safety consciousness of parents and their children that the children had the good sense to run away.
The first incident happened in the village of Tulla at about five past seven yesterday evening. Two men in a black jeep pulled up alongside a seven-year-old girl and reached out and tried to grab her. She luckily managed to get away. About two hours later, in the village of Doonbeg, a black car or jeep with two men inside stopped and asked a seven-year-old boy to get into the car to help them find the Garda station. The child also ran away in this incident. Gardaí got some descriptions from this second incident.
One of the men is described as in his 50's, with black hair and glasses, the second had brown hair and was wearing a denim jacket. Gardaí have mounted a number of checkpoints throughout the county and have asked parents and children to be very careful.
