State to oppose attempt by Meehan to secure separate tria

The State is to oppose an attempt by Dublin man Brian Meehan to secure one trial for drugs and firearms charges and a separate one for the murder of Veronica Guerin. Thirty-four-year-old Meehan, who was extradited from Holland last year, is facing a total of eighteen charges including murder.

The state wants all the charges to be dealt with in one trial because it says they are all linked. Both the murder trial and the application for severance are due to go ahead on June the second.
