Garda association in pay deal warning

A second garda association has warned that its members will refuse to operate a new computer system unless a productivity deal is agreed for proposed changes in the force. The threat by the Association of Garda Sergeants and Inspectors follows a similar one by the Garda Representative Association. The Association of Garda Sergeants and Inspectors, which has 2,000 members, has threatened to support the action being planned by the larger, 8,000-member Garda Representative Association.

The £50million system, known as PULSE, is due to be introduced later this year. It will be the largest in Ireland when in place, and is due to replace an existing one that could be at risk because of the millennium bug.
