IRA statement on victims' graves welcomed

Sinn Fein's chief negotiator Martin McGuinness has welcomed the IRA statement that it had identified the graves of nine people murdered and buried in secret by the organisation in the 1970s. Mr. McGuinness said that a great injustice had been done to the families of the disappeared. Speaking on RTÉ radio, he said that the IRA had made it clear the move wasn't connected with the ongoing talks at Stormont.

The Taoiseach also welcomed the IRA statement. Mr. Ahern said that he hoped the development would have a positive impact on the peace process. Those whose graves have been traced include Seamus Wright, Kevin McKee and Eamon Molloy, all from Belfast and all said to be IRA members, Columba McVeigh, from County Tyrone, and Jean McConville, Brendan McGraw, John McClory, Brian McKinney and Danny McIlhone, all from Belfast.
