Former Taoiseach, Jack Lynch, never had debts written off

Mairín Lynch, wife of former Taoiseach, Jack Lynch, has said her husband never had any debts written off by AIB or any other bank. In a statement this afternoon, Mrs Lynch said that following a detailed review of her husband's banking activity she can state categorically on his behalf that he never sought, nor was given, any favourable treatment in his bank dealings and never had any debts written off by his bank while in politics or at any other time.

Yesterday, three other former Taoisigh, Albert Reynolds, John Bruton and Liam Cosgrave, also made public that they never had debts written off by any financial institution. They were speaking after the admission by another former Taoiseach, Garret Fitzgerald, that two banks, AIB and Ansbacher, wrote off his debts of almost £200,000 six years ago.
