Angry exchanges at Flood Tribunal

Cross-examination of the key witness in the Flood tribunal, James Gogarty, has finished for the day following angry exchanges this morning after Mr Gogarty was accused of avoiding the questions being put to him. Mr Gogarty in turn accused counsel for the Murphy Group of trying to make a liar out of him. On one occasion, he left the witness box, claiming he was not in the dock.

Mr Gogarty was asked about statements he was said to have previously made regarding corruption and bribery in the gardaí. He said he did not believe he had made such accusations and that he must have been misunderstood or misreported. On a number of occasions he had to be remined of proceedure and asked to answer the questions he was asked. The inquiry was adjourned this morning, but was resumed half an hour later.
