The 1998 Oscar nominees were announced in Hollywood today. The romantic comedy "Shakespeare in Love" has received thirteen nominations two more than the Second World War epic "Saving Private Ryan," a large part of which was shot in Wexford.
The other films vying for Oscar glory , with seven nominations apiece are Elizabeth, Life is Beautiful and the Thin Red Line.
Two-time Academy Award winner Tom Hanks topped the list of Oscar nominees for best actor for his role in "Saving Private Ryan" along with veteran actor Sir Ian McKellen for "Gods and Monsters".
The American Gwyneth Paltrow is among the list of nominations for best actress for "Shakespeare in Love" . The 71st Academy Awards ceremony will take place in Los Angeles on March the 21st with Whoopi Goldberg going back for a third time as master of ceremonies.
