US Senate rejects live Lewinsky testimonial plan

The United States Senate has rejected a motion that would have required the former White House worker Monica Lewinsky to give evidence in person at President Clinton's impeachment trial. But it also voted to allow Senators to see the videotaped depositions from all three witnesses, including Ms Lewinsky.

A spokeswoman for Monica Lewinsky said she was pleased that she would not have to testify in public. Republican leaders say the impeachment trial could now be over as early as next Thursday.
