The RUC Chief Constable, Sir Ronnie Flanagan, and the Northern Secretary, Mo Mowlam, have urged MPs at Westminster not to use Parliamentary privilege to name those allegedly responsible for the Omagh bombing and paramilitary punishment attacks.
Sir Ronnie said that such a move could be prejudicial to the prospect of successfully bringing before the courts those involved in such crimes. The vice-chairman of the Conservative's Northern Ireland committee, Andrew Hunter, said that he may name the alleged attackers during Northern Irish Questions tomorrow.
He has said he is still considering whether or not he would identify the man he has been told was directly linked to the Omagh bombing which killed 29 and injured more than 350 others.
Detectives believe they know at least six men belonging to the Real IRA they suspect were directly involved in the August 15 attack. Although they have questioned at least 20, no one has been charged because of insufficient evidence.
The Chief Constable has said that it is his intention to make his views known to those reported to be considering this Parliamentary action.
