Behavioural sleep therapist explains the science of sleep habits

Behavioural Sleep Therapist Motty Varghese from the Sleep Therapy Clinic in Dublin joined Jennifer Zamparelli on RTÉ 2FM to tackle listeners' bad (and scary) sleeping habits.

"When we do a sleep study, we look at different parameters - it's a very comprehensive test," Motty says, explaining his work at the clinic.

"We look at the brain activity, we look at our muscle movements, we look at how our eyes move, we look at breathing patterns during sleep - abdominal and chest movements, oxygen levels - we'll have electrodes on the leg to see if there is restless legs or periodic limb movements."

"All this data will be collected over the night and will be analysed to see what happens during a person's sleep"

From sleep-walking and sleep-talking to night terrors and snoring, Verghese breaks down the science of what happens to our minds and bodies when it comes to our sleep cycles. Listen back above.
