Comedian PJ Gallagher joined Louise McSharry in the RTÉ2fm studios today to discuss a new show that could see one lucky DIY-er walk away with €10,000. Listen back above.

"First of all, I'm terrible at DIY," laughs PJ. "I'm the type of person that if something breaks in the house, I just learn to live with it. Live around it, it will be grand."

So if he can't stand to look at an IKEA flat pack, how did PJ end up as host of a show called The Big DIY Challenge? Well, he's not entirely sure but he does have some experience working with his hands. Back in the day, he worked in a lighting warehouse with none other than fellow comedian Jason Byrne.

"We did work together but I think it says a lot about our DIY and our handiwork that we both ended up telling jokes for a living," he laughed.

"I'm actually alright with electric stuff," he continued. "I can wire a plug - that's pretty much where it begins and ends. Literally, anything after that, I'm terrible."

Luckily, whether you're a DIY pro who has tiled their kitchen by hand or if, like PJ, you can't tell the difference between a Phillips head and an Allen wrench, you can apply to take part on RTÉ's brand new TV show.

However, please take note that professionals need not apply nor should they be hired to help with the project except in circumstances where the DIY-er requires assistance for safety reasons (electrical rewiring, etc.).

Plus, if you have the ultimate DIY-fail that could earn you some brownie points on the show too!

How to apply
