After the festivities of Halloween and frightful amounts of sweets consumed, a healthy, relatively pumpkin-free weekend is just what the doctor ordered.

There's still  one weekend left of the mid-term break, so stretch out those sunny afternoons and evenings with some of the best activities and events around the country.

1) Hullabaloo Offaly Children's Arts Festival
Hullabaloo! takes place during the October mid-term break in Birr, Clara, Edenderry and libraries around Offaly. This fantastic event is the biggest Midlands festival of theatre and arts for children.

Events taking place include A Winter Wish and The Moody Sky in Birr Theatre & Arts Centre on Saturday, The Feathered Crown and Step Out Dance in the Clara Family Resource Centre on Saturday and Junk Drumming and DIY Gamelan in Edenderry Youth Café and lots, lots more.

2) Funderland, Belfast
Everyone is attracted to The Titanic Quarter again as Funderland continues to entertain the city until Sunday, with all the usual thrills and spills to keep everyone entertained.

3) Cork & Kerry Food Market
The 10th Annual Cork and Kerry Food Market takes place this Saturday where you can taste, shop and explore the best food and drink produce Cork and Kerry has to offer. As well as these culinary delights, there will also be cookery demos from The Happy Pear and Kevin Dundon.

4) Wexford Fringe Festival
Another incredible Wexford Fringe comes to an end this weekend after around 300 events over 17 days.

Events to catch this weekend include Wild Goose Week at Wexford Wildfowl Reserve, Wexford Light Opera Society’s "Hits from the Musicals 2018 and tour of Johnstown Castle with the Wexford Historical Society and more.

5) Tradoodle | Sligo
The traditional arts festival for younger audiences continues this weekend, with "Under the Sea" as its theme. The exciting festival is now in its second year and has a packed schedule.

Events on Thursday and Friday include Deep Sea Shadow Puppetry Workshop, Feel to the Beat sean-nós dancing, Under the Sea session, A Winter's Wish and The Wonderful Tune.

6) C.S. Lewis Festival
The mastermind behind Narnia and the creator of generations of childhood dreams, C.S. Lewis was born in Belfast and the festival showcases his diverse works and strong connections to his childhood home.

Through a series of events and activities including talks, film, theatre, arts, crafts, readings, music, workshops, exhibitions, tours and literature - everyone is invited to open the wardrobe door to the world of C.S. Lewis.

7) International Uilleann Pipeing Day
The eighth International Uilleann Piping Day takes place on 3rd November and is a great opportunity to introduce the uninitiated to the instrument.

The are lots of different events throughout the country on Saturday and you can join Na Píobairí Uilleann at Collins Barracks the next day, in a special event to mark the day with live performances at 3pm and 4pm, on Sunday 4th.

8) Mayo Dark Skies Festival
This three-day celebration in Mayo is the perfect activity for the longer nights and a great way to get kids interested and engaged with their surroundings. The 'Friends of Mayo Dark Skies' in Newport, Mulranny and Ballycroy will host a three-day feast of talks, workshops, walks and stargazing.

Events include Planetarium Show in Mulranny, Mars Lander Challenge Workshop in Newport and Parent and Child Model Rocket Workshop in Ballycroy.

9) Watergate Theatre | Goldilocks & The Three Bears Sing-A-Long
On Friday in Kilkenny, this much loved fairy-tale comes to the stage. A wonderful prelude to panto season, this delightful tale will be as popular as ever.

The beloved story takes a few twists and turns along the way, with other new puppet characters and hopefully a happy ever after.

10) Wild Lights
After an incredibly successful first run, the Wild Lights show returns to Dublin Zoo this week with a magical night-time spectacular event, featuring giant colourful lanterns and illuminated animal sculptures inspired by wildlife.

If the nights have to get longer, this is one way to keep the magic alive. 

11) Belfast International Arts Festival
Belfast International Arts Festival runs until 3rd November with a world-class programme of theatre, performance art, visual art, dance and music. Events this weekend include the Open Arts Community Choir in the Great Hall, Stormont and The Lament for Art O’Leary in The Mac on Friday.

1) Cork Film Festival
The 63rd Cork Film Festival runs from 9th - 18th November with over 250 Irish and international features and shorts, with 90% being Irish premieres.

2) Ennis Trad Festival
The 25th Ennis Trad Festival is on from the 7th - 12th of November with masterclasses, session trail, Céilí, live concerts and more.

3) Sneem International Storytelling & Folklore Festival
Featuring adult and children’s workshops, a pub trail, storytelling in the barn, theatre, music from John Spillane and more in the picturesque Knot in the Ring of Kerry.
