Meet the man who knows the Oscar winners before anyone else

Brian Cullinan is tallyman to glamorous Hollywood stars and he helps keep one of the most highly guarded secrets in the entertainment world: the winners of the Academy Awards.

He works for  PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) in the US, the firm which for the last 84 years has taken charge of counting the votes that decide who take home the Oscars. 

Each year, more than 6,000 members cast their votes in 24 categories. Over the years, it is estimated that PwC has counted more than 450,000 ballots.

Cullinan and his team count all the votes for the Oscar nominations and then the finals he told The Business Show on RTÉ Radio 1 with Richard Curran prior to this years ceremony

"The team ranges at different times of the year from 30-40 down to just a few as we are not as busy."

He went onto to explain that just two of the team go to the Oscars ceremony -  held in Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles.

"Myself and my colleague are the only two who knows the winners before the show and before the envelopes are open on stage."

Cullinan also revealed there are two special suitcases with duplicate sets of results.

On the day of the show, the two briefcases will are put into two different cars that take two different routes to the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, California.

The Irish-American and his colleague -  Martha Ruiz - deliver the envelopes to the presenters in real time.
