The bane of anyone's life when cooking boiled eggs - getting them out of that shell!

Hard boiled eggs, Ryan said this morning on RTÉ Radio 1, "are a healthy and nutritious snack, which are great for packed lunches or snacks on the go". Boiling them for 9 to 12 minutes is the easy part, but peeling them is a different matter.

"It can take several painstaking minutes to delicately remove the shell of an egg, but a new Lifehack doing the rounds could change all that."

So what is this easy way of shedding those shells without frying your brain? A simple teaspoon of baking powder!

Egg enthusiasts rejoice! But how does it work?

Baking soda is a master ingredient towards boiled eggs down to the wonders of science. It changes the pH of the egg to be more alkaline (the opposite of acidic). This makes the egg membrane less likely to stick to the shell, and helps it detach.

"And now you know", Ryan said, "Baking powder, bang it in the pot! And you can have your little own Angel Heart moment every morning at the breakfast table." If you can't remember that infamous long-nailed Robert DeNiro egg scene - have a quick google. Some eerie ones on YouTube that are a little spooky to post here! Instead here's a PC Angel version below!

Here's a video showing eggaxctly what to do:
