- Being organised and prepared – this starts at home!
- Pick a time in the week to plan your meals for the week ahead.
- Check your cupboards and make a list to ensure you have all the ingredients you need. Make sure you are not hungry or tired when making this list.
- Go to the supermarket with the list in hand. Make sure you are NOT hungry, tired, emotional, angry, annoyed, bored or lonely – granted, it can be hard to achieve this!
- Be aware of the tactics supermarkets employ to make you buy more. Remember, you are not saving money if you go for a ‘buy 2 get 1 free’ offer if you never intended to buy the product in the first place.
- Stick to your list.
- Aim to fill one-third of your basket or trolley with fruit and vegetables.
- Avoid the aisles that have treats which tempt you. Manage your environment!
