5 delicious events to check out this Culture Night

RTÉ marks Culture Night 2019 on September 20th in spectacular fashion, with an exciting mix of live music, spoken word, dance, and performances from both established and emerging Irish artists. For more info, click here.

It's a national night of shared experiences with over 4,000 events taking place across the country. To mark the occasion, we're sharing our top five delicious highlights to whet your Culture Night appetite.

1. Sligo Global Kitchen
Winners of the Irish Food Writers' Guild Community Award, Sligo Global Kitchen welcomes everyone in the community, especially those living in direct provision, to come together to share a meal and a global food experience together.

Don't miss the opportunity to discover new tastes and flavours at Sligo's most communal table.

Time: 5pm-6.30pm

2. The Bretzel Bakery, Dublin 8.
Not only can you soak up culture at this event, but you'll get a piece to bring home with you. Attendees will get a sample of starter culture to bake their own mouth-watering bread at home. Yum.

Originally the local bakery of the Jewish community, The Bretzel Bakery has been a Dublin culinary institution since 1870, so they know a thing or two or three about making great bread.

This Friday, they’ll be talking about the development of sourdough culture and the health benefits of long-fermentation. Drop by to take in their array of bakes and pick up a few tips to get you started.

3. Pigtown Parade
Ever dreamt of marching in a parade with butchers, brass bands and a giant pig? Me neither, but The Pigtown Parade does sound like some great family fun. There'll be puppets, street performers, and real-life piglets so get your face paint on and follow the parade through the streets of Limerick.

Time: 7pm - 8pm

4. The Fumbally Stables
The Fumbally Stables, born from The Fumbally Café, is a community space rooted in food that also hosts loads of great cultural events. Their mission is to discover how the way we eat and drink affects health and happiness, and about sustainable food practices and production.

Expect house fermented drinks, live jazz and a bit of stretching in the yoga room.

Time: 6pm – 9pm

5. Dublin Coffee Tour
Culture and coffee? Win-win.

Take in some of Dublin's history and architecture while you head from coffee shop to coffee shop learning about the baristas, how they source their coffee, and their relationships with roasters.

Time: 4.30pm – 6pm
