"I've been breaking hearts for far too long," laments Dubliner James Vincent McMorrow. His debut will cause plenty more tears before bedtime but will give others reason to dry their eyes and get a good night's sleep.

Whether warming or giving the chills, McMorrow sounds like someone to stick with for the long haul and this album feels like the work of a through-the-ringer veteran who's five records and 100,000 miles into a career, not someone who "didn't start playing music really until I was 18/19" and is still in his early twenties.

Beautifully recorded without taking the grit out of the songs, 'Early in the Morning' is a treasure trove, and as 'From the Woods!!' shows, McMorrow can really rip it up when the urge takes him. Here's hoping it takes him some more.
