Memphis Industries - 2001 - 47 minutes

Following on from the small hours glories of the recent Blue States album, Memphis Industries have embarked on another foray into life after dark. The guide in this case is Dan Berridge, a one-time London dweller who contracted ME and retreated with a sampler to the South Coast for some musical therapy. With just as much drama as his trading name suggests, he tinkers with everything from rock god riffs (No Pain) to snatches of mournful trumpet (Life Of A Refugee) and obscure Faith No More samples (No Religion), all wrapped up in crackly scores that could grace the work of anyone from Carpenter to Cassavettes. Lush but never lazy, 'Compassion' is the first sign of greatness from one man's mind. Daylight should break to these smoky beats.
