Details have been announced of this year's National Cinema Day on Saturday 3 September, with €4 tickets "all day, all seats, all shows" in participating cinemas.
Over 95% of the country's cinemas will take part in the initiative, with tickets for individual screenings available from participating cinemas' websites and box offices from Monday. Film fans are advised to check their local listings.
Among those lending their support to the day is filmmaker Emer Reynolds, whose credits include the recently released Joyride and the 2020 documentary Phil Lynott: Songs for While I'm Away.

"There's nothing quite like the magic of cinema; experiencing the shared waves of emotion; laughing and crying in the dark among strangers. It's one of life's great joys!" she said.
"I can't wait to celebrate National Cinema Day in my local cinema, revelling in the epic power and beauty of the big screen."
